The expectation in my familia, when it comes to Italian beef, is it better be great, not good. Well, thank you, Skippy's! On a rainy day, in need of sustenance, my wayward niece and I rolled in for what, we were pleased to find, was a couple of pretty great I.B. sammies. I guess other people had the same idea; both the drive through and restaurant were packed. Skippy's has a pretty substantial menu, with a multitude of sides. The Italian beefs were huge, the sweet peppers were awesome (they apparently have my mother's recipe), as was the bread. Nothing was greasy, everything was hot, the service was friendly, and the place and employees were immaculate. Though a first time for us, we thought Skippy's was great! We will see you again.

I had the Italian Sausage sandwich. The sausage was dry and the outside was crunchy--overcooked. I had hot peppers added and they must have had a lot of liquid as the bun soggy. Nothing else was on the sandwich. I paid the extra for fries and a drink. The fries were fine. The regular Pepsi didn't have any flavor, the Dr. Pepper was average, as well as the SoBe but the Diet Pepsi had flavor but was not good. I paid almost $10 and I felt this was a very high price for such awful food. I won't return.

Fabulous! All that we ordered was delish..Spinach Pie, Athenian chix pita, Beef & ched crossiant & Chz fries! Oo so good..forgot to use my coupon(bummed)but I will be back! A lil bit on the pricey side but not a regret! The menu is very extensive, which will make it hard if you are not decided on what to order & you will want eVerything. Give it a try, you can't go wrong!

Dropped in to use our free gyro coupon - hadn't been there in years. Very attentive service with staff constantly walking around to make sure tables were clean, etc. Had traditional Gyro which was delicious, Wifey had chicken gyro which was also good (comes with honey mustard dressing which is a bit sweet for my tastes). Fresh Pita - Daughter #3 had hot dog and curly fries. I've had a better dog at Portillos (but she gets it plain with ketchup only - OK, she wasn't born in Chicago) Recommended, especially for Gyros.

Good food for the area. But I was spoiled living in the city of Chicago and this place pales in comparison.

Good food, good prices. Plenty to choose from. The gyros are very good. So are the panini's. To tell you the truth, everything I have eaten there was good. Always hot & delivered right to your table. All food is made to order. They even clean up after you. There are no garbage cans anywhere.

Love this place and love the mini gyros!

Skippy's Gyros is a rather large and clean Gyro/Hot Dog/Burger joint located off of Randall Road right near Roosevelt Road in Saint Charles. This Skippy's Gyros appears to be unrelated to the Skippy's Gyros I previously reviewed located off of Lake Street in Roselle. They have quite a few tables set up inside, and a fountain drink that has Mountain Dew Code Red available, this stuck out in my mind as it's one of my favorite soft drinks and it's rare that I ever see it in restaurants. In visiting I decided to try the hot dog. The hot dog I received came on a soft regular non-poppy seed bun. There were rather thick chunks of tomato, very thick sport peppers and so sign of celery salt on the dog. The sausage itself was a skinless dog but was fairly flavorful. The application of the mustard, onions and relish was fine. The pickle used was not quite as long as my hot dog preventing me from getting pickle in every bite, and it was a bit too thick for my taste. The price was roughly 2.50 plus tax for the hot dog and for another 75 cents I could have added fries. I decided against it. Overall this was a fairly average hot dog. It was well prepared but the short and thick pickle and the thicker than normal tomato chunks brought the score down a bit. I give it three stars.

The prices they show on the website and on their drive thru board are incorrect. They said they changed the prices 2 months ago and haven't gotten around to letting the public know. So when you get to the window, the price is much higher than expected. Should have been $10 and was $12. RIPOFF and deceptive. And forget about their beef sandwiches. VERY little meat (and tough and gristly at that). Try Portillos or the Beef Shack or Buona Beef instead.

The food here is OK and is probably the only place to get a decent Gyro nearby. It is an actual Gyro, not reheated on a grill, and they are not shy about piling on the meat. While the staff is not exactly warm, they are not unfriendly either. The facility seems very clean and there is a large selection with a "specialty" item or two as well as 8 to 10 self serve drinks to choose from. The wait for food is unusually fast, enough so that I watched some orders after us to make sure they were not simply microwaving stuff. After ordering at the counter, they bring food out to your table, which is a nice touch but probably not necessary with the speed they do things

The gyro meat was great but the fries were air pockets void of flavor. The Skippy Sub was nit much more than a big ham and cheese sandwich. It was good enough to fix my need for a gyro.

Yum! Great food choices and service. Very nice and clean inside; family friendly. We ate double cheese burger, curly fries and chicken gyro. All very good; would recommend and come back.

When I want a hot dog and fries and don't want to travel down Randall Rd to Portillos this would be the place I would stop at - they are ok, nothing to write home about. BUT then I tried the gyros.....WOW this thing was the most amazing gyro I have ever had. The pita is always fresh and the meat is always juicy. And the price is really reasonable for what you get! The gyro is also big enough to split with someone and still be satisfied with the amount you get. The decor is a little too busy for my taste. They do have large TV's that were wonderful to watch the World Cup games on during lunch.

I ate there a few days ago. It was not bad. I liked the Chicken Gyro but an employee in particular was indignant with me. After my meal, I called to speak to the owner - actually to complement him on the establishment and the gyro. Whoever answered the phone told me, "You have 5 seconds to tell me what you want." I found myself searching for words wondering when he hung up on me. It was like I was a hood from Melrose Park asking for hush or protection money! I get it, they are minimum wage employees and no one should sacrifice their heart and soul for below poverty pay but may I suggest, they ought not take it upon themselves to screen calls from a customer - unless of course the owners are hiding from something. These instances usually signal a slow sinking of business.

I have been there a number of times and honestly do not like the place. Its overpriced and the food is mediocre at best. But our kids like getting the free italian flavored ice with the overpriced "skip pack" I would "skip" Skippys There are better places that are less expensive with better food. I would have given it one star but the italian ice is only redeeming quality and the kids like it.
(2)Jen R.
Delicious gyros. Great menu selection. I rated it 3 stars because I've come away without food I've ordered & been charged for on two different occasions. The grilled cheese for the kiddos needs improvement, but otherwise, food is fast, hot, and delicious.
(3)Lucas C.
good fast food and better than most fast food places. Italian beef is tasty, Chicken and rice soup is one of the best I've had, and the chicken fingers are the best I've ever had. 4 stars because portillos down the road has better food.

My father in law swears that Skippy's "has the best Gyros on the planet." Coming into Skippy's with that in mind I was partially skeptical, partially excited, and fully hungry. I imagined Skippy's to be more of a Greek diner, rather than a hot dog/burger joint that specializes in Gyros. Their menu has a weird ensemble of various different foods (Mexican, Middle Eastern, Greasy American). In my opinion you shouldn't go to Skippy's and skip out on the Gyros. I went with the King Gyro combo. For $9.50 you get a MASSIVE gyro, fries, and a drink. By the time we got back to the in-laws house the fries were not fresh, but you could tell they would have been good right out of the fryer. The Gyro was huge and really was one of the best Gyro's I have ever had. The meat had great flavor and their Tzatziki sauce was killer. I do wish that I saw the meat get sliced off a spinning broiler, rather than come from a mystery spot back in the kitchen. Either way it was really tasty. I will be back for more next time I am out that way!
(4)Mike R.
I loved this place. It had a large menu with lots of options to pick from. I got a gyro and onion rings. The gyro had good flavor and a ton of meat on it. At other places they would have made 3 to 4 gyro's with this amount of meat. I love the decor and the tv's on the walls. I will be back next time I am in the area.
(4)Rob P.
Great food, great service!
(4)Jason K.
Overpriced, below average quality gyros from a very confusing menu.... $6.59 for a 3 inch gyro kids meal with milk, $8.29 for a gyro with fries.... was looking for a good Gyro place locally, afraid this will be my one and only visit... the meat, the pita, the sauce...not one redeeming quality.
(1)Brit W.
Best hot dog I've EVER had! So delish! I need to try a gyro next time I am there, though! Have never eaten inside, just have gone thru the drive-thru for a quick hot dog after teaching lessons once in a while. Their staff has always been very friendly to me.
(4)Roxanne B.
My husband and son used to go here every Saturday. It was quite pricey but the food was ok. The hot dogs are nothing compared to Portillo's but I had a coupon so wanted to try them. The cheeseburgers and fries are good. The salads are soaked unless you ask for dressing on the side. Then one day it all stopped because I was waited on by a server with a piercing in her nose AND her face. This is unheard of in the food industry and is completely unsightly and unsanitary. We will never go back.
(1)Larry J.
Very nice establishment, good food but the king size gyro is about the same as others I have had. Save yourself the mony and get the regular. They have a great selection of sodas. They have Mt.Dew code Red!
(4)Amanda S.
I gave Skippy's South Elgin location 3 stars, all other comments in my review for them stand for this location as well. Although this location is closer to home, I honestly blame them for Mr. Beef closing (I'm sure they're not really the reason why but I need a scapegoat). Actually I just really don't care for their food. I've tried quite a few things but have just been underwhelmed by the sandwiches, dogs, gyros, fries. Italian Ices are still delish but I wouldn't go here for anything else. Looks like if I want a gyro I'm driving to Chiggy's in HP.
(2)Liz W.
I am in love with the gyros and the fries. Mmmmm and such nice staff
(5)John W.
Been to Skippy's a few times now and have enjoyed their Italian beef every time. It is a quality beef sandwich with a LOT of meat. The mozzarella cheese is baked on top, instead of inside, which is a nice change. The bun is solid with a nice crisp to it. This is a nice alternative to that "other" italian beef and hotdog place that rules this area.
(4)Scott K.
I've been to this location 4 times now and have only had one item that I thought above average in the yum yum scale. That item was the Italian sausage. The french bread was fresh and had a thin crispy crust a little bit of juice and it was quite good. I've also had the Polish sausage and the 8 pc Buffalo wing w/hot sauce and can give them an average rating (the polish at Roselle location seems to be more tasty, go figure). Sadly the Philly Cheese steak was below par. It to me was bland no flavor that stood out to give it a yum yum taste. I'll qualify my review by saying I held the onions and peppers but I've done the same at other places and did get a yum yum sandwich. My wife has joined my 2 of my 4 visits and she was very pleased with her gyro but bummed on the yum yum of grilled chicken sandwich. All visits were all walk-in (2 to go, to for here) and the service was average at best. The place is clean and has a nice decor which made the dining in a nice experience. The prices are OK though are last visit for two sandwiches and a bottle of water was $13, not a lot but it seemed to be a bit high. However since this was the visit that I had my Philly and my her chicken it may have put a negative spin on my attitude. I do like their diverse menu and look forward to trying more items that could eventually make Skippy's a 4 star, but I don't see it becoming a 5 star

Ok even though I have only been here once I was very satisfied with the food I got and the service as well. I live down in Plainfield but anytime I go up north I will make it a point to stop in!!

Now, I'm not gonna lie to you...I do not eat Gyros meat. I think it's gross. But I've heard their gyros are pretty good...but that shouldn't mean that everything else will taste like poo. I've been here about 3 times. With each time I would try and give them a chance, but after this last visit, never again. This last time I ordered a Super Taco, and Chili Cheese Fries. I placed my order and we took our little plastic number, and waited for them to hand deliver our order to the table. The girl brings the food over, and I already see something wrong. I have a little pile of fries with a little cup of cheese. I say excuse me to the girl, but she keeps walking away. Ok, so I see another girl coming to our table, because they forgot to hand my friend silverware for her salad. I tell her that what they gave me is wrong. She then leaves the table and gets the manager. Mr. Manager comes over, and asks what's wrong. I just tell him that I thought I ordered Chili Cheese Fries, but I told him that if the girl charged me just for the Cheese Fries, I would just take them (I understand shit happens, people make mistakes, and thought it might be possible that she misheard me) Mr. Manager keeps asking me if Chili Cheese Fries are what I want, granted he was nice about it, but he kept asking me like it was my fault that they messed up my order. I take a bite of my Super Taco...ick. So so so bland. Chili Cheese Fries...wasn't even worth all that hassle. The fries are crunchy, which aren't that bad, but the chili was really bad. You would think that Hormels chili was top of the line compared to this crap... Either way, if you love Gyros, it might be worth a try. Otherwise I wouldn't try anything else here. Everything I've had just seems to be a huge let down...

Decent food. Drive thru is convenient. I would recommend going to Mr Beef and Gyros for a much better gyro.
(3)John O.
This is the third Gyros place in a row that I have reviewed and they are getting redundant. I think they all get there Gyros from the same distributer because they all kinda taste the same. This isn't a negative review about the place. I actually liked it and it even has a drive-thru. Inside I felt as if I was at some new modern Mexican restaurant by the bright colors on the was but at least it was clean. Although it hasn't been open very long. We'll see how that goes.
(4)Bill O.
Just went to Skippy's in Saint Charles for a gyro. Probably the fourth or fifth time I've been here, always for a gyro. The quality is good, but there's something about the taste of the gyro meat that isn't great. They do give you a very large portion, but the taste isn't as good as other gyros I've had. Plan to try the beef sandwhich next time.
(3)Austin S.
Very friendly guys and gals at skippys! And if you're looking f or something different this is the place! You really get plenty of food and for just a few bucks more than mcdonalds, it's really hard to beat. There aren't to many places that do Greek food, but these guys do it right. Try it all, you won't be disappointed, and if you like Italian beef this is the best arround!
(5)Robert C.
Skippy's has one of the best burgers in town, it's a classic fresh meat patty cooked juicy and topped with lettuce, onion, cheese, mayo, ketchup and three pickles on a nice soft crispy bun! I recommend anyone who is a burger freak like me to come and try one of these delicious burgers! Plus, the restaurant is very clean, beautiful decor, and friendly staff. Great place!
